NvHIMA Election 2020/2021 – Meet the Candidates
Annissa Johnson, RHIA, is the director of Health Information Management at Desert Parkway Behavioral Health Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. She has been a dedicated member of AHIMA since 2009. She has worked in the Health Information field for the last 10 years. She would like to see if her experience and her passion could help contribute to the Nevada Chapter of AHIMA. Annissa has a wealth of experience with both paper and electronic health records. She has direct experience with systems such as Cerner, Epic, HPF, McKesson, Nuance, Outlook all Microsoft office products, just to name a few.
Frances Oliveri, MHA, RHIA, CCA, Director, HIM and Facility Privacy Officer who actively participates in the unbilled management process and is responsible for managing the day- to-day operations of an 800 plus bed facility. Fran is responsible for dissemination of HIPAA training and reporting. Fran prioritizes the importance of accurate, timely, and complete medical records, and rights to protected health information. Fran is the first to set many facility first time records, namely an unbilled average under 1.3 days. Fran is a seasoned industry expert and able to maximize process efficiencies through consolidation and reorganization. Fran holds a Master Degree in Health Care Administration from Ashford University.
Cassie Gentry, M.Ed., RHIA, CHP is the HIT and Medical Coding Program Director and Department Chair for Health Related Professions at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, NV. She has been a member of AHIMA since 1990. Cassie has worked in acute care hospitals, long term care and ambulatory care settings in Texas while participating in the Texas HIM Association and local Houston area HIM association before moving to Las Vegas and becoming an educator. She thoroughly enjoys teaching in the healthcare field. She is a member of the Nevada and Southern Nevada HIM Associations. She has served as Director of NvHIMA and Secretary of SNvHIMA.
Susan H. Tapp, RHIT, previously worked as an under-fill for the Health Information Coordinator position for the state of Nevada’s Central Cancer Registry. She worked in this position for six and half years retrieving data from multiple medical facilities while ensuring the integrity of the patient’s identity. She managed data entry, and used her medical knowledge for case-finding. Susan also ensured data quality for reporting data-set standards by NPCR and NAACCR by de-identifying personal health information (PHI).
I have been a part of Health Information Management for 33 years. In those years I have had the opportunity to work in a majority of health care environments. I have acquired three AHIMA credentials (RHIA, CCS & CPHQ) and have earned a Masters in Health Administration (MHA). I have completed all of the coursework for a Doctorate in Education with an emphasis on teaching Health Information courses. I have had the opportunity to present conferences related to privacy, security, coding, beginning courses for Health Information Management, and have mentored students in clinical areas of this profession. I am a patient, kind person who is willing to listen to what someone has to say.
Linda Howard, CCS, is a Clinical Data Analyst for 3M Health Information Management Systems. She has worked in the State and Local associations as President Elect, President and Past President. She has participated in the State Education, Bylaws/Policy & Procedure, Convention and Budget Committees. She has 45 years working in varying capacities of health information management from Director of HIM, Utilization Review, Pharmaceutical & Disease Research, Patient Financial Services Director, Quality Auditing for Physicians and Hospitals, coding and currently as a Clinical Data Analyst.
I would consider it an honor and privilege to serve as a board member. My previous experience includes secretary of the non-profit board for Lend-A-Hand in Boulder City. I have extensive experience with the business world from my prior career. I am Dedicated to Excellence in both my personal and professional life. My career focus is HCC coding, including clinical documentation. I prepared for my career with purpose and passion for both health information management and healthcare in general. I look forward to this opportunity and its potential to enhance not only my own experience in this field, but also my collaboration with and support for colleagues.
I graduated from College of Southern Nevada May 2019 with an Associates in Health Information Technology and a Certificate in medical Coding. I recently received my RHIT in July 2019, I am a mother of 4 boys. I have chosen to continue my education and become a Registered Nurse. I am hoping to one day help bridge the gap between RN and RHIT.
My career in Health Information Management spans fourteen years. Having worked in the sectors of coding, auditing, and management has allowed me to truly understand many aspects of this profession. I have worked in multispecialty coding areas including professional, outpatient, inpatient, rehabilitation, skilled nursing, hospice, and home health. I have had the honor of serving on the NvHIMA Board of Directors the last 3 years in the role of President-Elect, President, and, currently, Past-President. My work with AHIMA includes being a delegate in the House of Delegates for the past three years and serving in the Envisioning Collaborative and House Leadership committees.
